Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology.

The three hour GATE test in 21 papers was conducted across the country on two days. GATE 2013 Online Examination held on 20th January 2013 & GATE 2013 Offline Examination held on 10th February 2013.

A total of 12,00,728 candidates registered for GATE 2013.

9,84,855 candidates (82.02%) appeared for the exam, of which 1,36,699 (13.88%) have qualified GATE 2013.

Women candidates comprised 39.75% of the total registrants while Men candidates comprised 60.25%.

A larger fraction of the registered men appeared (88%) for the exam than women candidates (72%). Nearly 81% of the total number of candidates who appeared for GATE 2013 were from four papers: Electronics and Communication Engineering (2,56,135), Computer Science and Information Technology (2,24,160), Mechanical Engineering (1,65,814) and Electrical Engineering (1,52,381).

Women form 20.9% of the total qualified candidates. As per the candidate supplied category (General, OBC-NC, SC, and ST) information, among the qualified candidates, 72,125 belong to General, 41,237 to OBC-NC, 18,936 to SC, and 4,401 to ST category. Physically challenged candidates comprise a total of 1,136 among the qualified in various categories.

The top five States that had qualified candidates as their permanent residence are Andra Pradesh (22,476), Uttar Pradesh (22,400), Maharashtra (9,951), Bihar (9,820), and Kerala (8,992).

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering – GATE 2013

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. The GATE score of a candidate reflects a relative performance of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to post-graduate engineering programmes (eg. M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. The score may also used by Public sector units for employment screening purposes.

GATE 2013 results may be made available on payment basis to interested organizations (educational institutions, R & D laboratories, industries, etc.) in India and abroad based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between IIT Bombay and the requesting organization. Details in this regard can be obtained from the Chairman, GATE, IIT Bombay.

GATE 2013 Score Card: All candidates who appeared for the exam can view their results (Marks and All India Rank). Additionally, only the following candidates will be given a GATE Score and mailed a Scorecard

1. All candidates above OBC (NCL) cut off mark.

2. SC/ST/PD Candidates above their category’s cut off mark.

There is no provision for issue of additional GATE scorecards.

Candidates will also have an Option (till 20:00 hrs on 19 March 2012) to change the Communication Address, to which the scorecards (printed on official stationery) will be sent by Speed Post.

GATE 2013 Score Validity: GATE 2013 score is valid for TWO YEARS from the date of announcement of the GATE 2013 results.

GATE Score Formula 2013 & Old GATE Formula 2012

GATE Score Calculation Formula 2013:

After the evaluation of the answers, the raw marks obtained by a candidate will be converted to a normalised GATE Score. From 2013 onwards, a new formula will be used to calculate the GATE Score.

From 2013, the GATE score of a candidate will be computed from:

Where,

S = GATE Score (normalised) of a candidate,

M = Marks obtained by a candidate in a paper,

M_q = Qualifying Marks for general category candidates in the paper,

M_t = Average Marks of top 0.1% or 10 (whichever is higher) of candidates in the paper,

S_t = GATE Score assigned to M_t (around 900), and

S_q = GATE Score assigned to M_q (around 300).

M_q is usually 25 marks (out of 100) or µ + σ , which ever is higher. Here µ is the mean of marks in a paper and σ is the standard deviation.

Old GATE score Formula till 2012:

The GATE Score is calculated using the following formula

m = marks obtained by the candidate.

a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2012, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero.

S= standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2012, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero.

a_g= average of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers in years 2009-2012, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero

s_g = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers in years 2009-2012, with all marks less than zero, converted to Zero.

The GATE score is set to zero if the value calculated by the above formula is less than zero and the GATE score is set to 1000 if the value calculated by the above formula is more than 1000.

NTPC ET Selection Process: Eligible candidates will have to appear for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE 2013. Based on the GATE 2013 MARKS and requirement, candidates will be short listed for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Candidates NEED to secure minimum qualifying marks in GD & Interview.
