On behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor Both, in Indian Universities and Colleges.

Till June 2018, the CBSE conducted the NET in 84 subjects at 91 selected Cities of spread across the country. Since Dec 2018 onwards, the UGC- NET is being conducted by the NTA.

The award of JRF and or Eligibility for Assistant Professor depends on the aggregrate performance of the candidate in Paper-I and paper-II of UGC-NET. The candidates qualifying only for Assistant Professor are not to be considered for the award of JRF. Candidates who qualify the test for eligibility for Assistant Professor are governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Assistant Professor of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be. UGC-NET is conducted twice a year. In June 2020, the examination is scheduled between 15 June and 20 June 2020.

UGC NET Previous Question Papers

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)

Educational Qualification:

i)General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC .

ii). Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or equivalent course or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test.

iii). The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination have been completed by 19 September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks.

Age Limit

JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 01.06.2020.

Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit in applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor

EXEMPTION (Eligibility for Assistant Professor):

i). NET/ SET/ SLET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/Colleges/ Institutions.

ii). The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.

iii). For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 1st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges situated in the state from where they have cleared their SET.

Examination Fee: Rs. 1000/- for general candidates, Rs. 500/- for OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website: www.ncbc.nic.in) candidates and Rs. 250/- for SC/ ST/ PWD/ Transgender candidates.

First Shift: 09.30 am-12.30pm

SecondShift: 02.30 pm-5.30 pm

UGC NET 2020 Syllabus

Mode of Examination: The Examination shall be conducted as Computer Based Test (CBT) only.

Pattern: The test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of objective type, multiple-choice questions.There will be no break between papers

Paper- I: The questions in Paper I intend to assess    the teaching/    research aptitude of the candidate.  It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.

Paper-II: This is based on the subject selected by the candidate and will assess domain knowledge.
