Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2012
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will be conducting the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2012 on 20/05/2012 (Sunday) all over India. Preliminary Examination of the Civil Services Examination 2012 is for recruitment to the various Posts (IAS, IPS Services etc). The number of vacancies to be filled on the result of the examination is expected to be approximately 1037. The number of vacancies may undergo change.
Scheme of Civil Services Examination 2012:
The Civil Services Examination 2012 will consist of two successive stages
(i) Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2012 (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and
(ii) Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts.
Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2012 Question Paper Pattern
Civil Services Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as a screening test only; the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit.
The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks.
Paper I – General Studies
Civil Services Preliminary Exam – Paper 1 is a General Studies paper, which is of 200 Marks. General Studies Paper consist of 100 multiple choice questions- each question carry 2 marks. Total Duration is 2hrs.
Paper 2 – Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT)
Civil Services Preliminary Exam – Paper 2 is aptitude Test, which is of 200 Marks. Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) Question Paper consist of 80 multiple choice questions- each question carry 2.5 marks. Total Duration is 2hrs.
Note: Candidates should note that there will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.
The Civil Services Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an Interview Test. The Civil Services Main written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects.
