The West Bengal Excise Constable Written Exam will have objective type questions (MCQ) on General Awareness and General Knowledge, English, Elementary Mathematics and Reasoning.

A) General Awareness and General Knowledge:-Full Marks-25
i) (History of India– Uprising during the First Century of British Rule―Peasant Revolts; Tribal Revolts; The Great Revolt of 1857; Genesis of Indian Nationalism-19 th century Nationalism in Indo-European Background ; Education Policy of the British―Rise of the English Educated Middle Class-Social Reform Movements; Awakening of National Consciousness―First Phase of Nationalism; Founding of the Indian National Congress; Early Phase of the Congress―Split between Moderates and Extremists; Militant Nationalism; Partition of Bengal and Swadeshi Movements ; Revolutionary Movements; Main Stages of National Movement in India: 1930―1947 A.D.-Various Trends within the Congress―Left Politics; Revolutionary Movements: Punjab and Bengal; 1942 Movement ; Subhas Chandra & I.N.A ; Post Second World War Popular Uprisings; Background of Communal Politics & Two-Nation Theory; Partition of India and Indian Independence. iv) Science Basic idea about properties of elements; Physical and chemical properties of HCl, HNO3, H2SO4; nature and uses of Washing soda, common salt, bleaching powder, slacked lime, copper sulphate, ammonium sulphate, urea, soap, detergent, methylated spirit, vinegar, rectified spirit, naphthalene; Basic property of metals―Aluminium, magnesium, zinc, iron, copper; Composition and uses of some important alloys : Brass, stainless steel, bronze, duralumin; Newtons Law of Motion and Law of gravitation; Simple machines; Instruments―inventions and discoveries; Heat and temperature― unit of heat; celsius and Fahrenheit scale of temperature−conversion; Lens―Convex and concave; distinction between real and virtual images; Dispersion of light; Current -Electricity; Concept of emf. potential difference and resistance; Heating effect of current- electrical power and energy, household consumption; Natural Radioactivity― a nuclear phenomenon, hazards and safety precautions; Simple idea of fission and fusion.
Structure and function of the Eye and the Ear: Heredity -Definition & explanation; Evolution―Theories of evolution ―put forward by Lamarck & Darwin; Virus, Microbes; Hygiene; Diseases―causes, cure and prevention; balanced diet; deficiency diseases. Scientists and their contribution.
v) Current Events ―Latest development in Science and technology; political development in India; New developments in Trade―Transport and communication. Fine arts like dance, drama, films, painting; major literary works; Game and Sports; National & International awards; National and International organizations; who is who; Books and authors; India and its neighbours; present day India and other related topics.
B) English:- Full Marks-25 (Appropriate use of article and preposition; nominal compound; use of verbs; verbs with – ing /ed /en suffixes and their use; gerunds; use of proper form of verbs; main clause and dependent clause; use of prefixes and suffixes; use of passive voice; complex and compound sentences; synonyms and antonyms; correct use of words; correction of sentences; use of common phrases)
C) Elementary Mathematics :- Full Marks-25 (Fractions and decimal; Mixture; Average; Square root; Percentage; Profit and Loss; Interest ―Simple and Compound ; Uniform Rate of Growth; Simple equations―Solution of Linear Simultaneous Equation involving two unknowns and Quadratic Equation; Problems based on Ratio, Proportion and Variation―Direct and Inverse, Basic theorems on triangles and circles; Perimeter and area of rectangle and circle; surface area and volume of (i) a right circular cylinder (ii) a right circular cone (iii) a sphere).
D) Reasoning:- Full Marks-15 The Reasoning Test will aim to evaluate the candidate’s ability of logical understanding, comparison skills and ability to think and answer. The questions may include problems on coding and decoding; alphabetical and arithmetical series, blood relation, test of direction, position of a thing in a queue, mirror images, arrangement of words in a dictionary, grouping of identical figures, analogy, problems of age calculation etc.
INTERVIEW:-Full Marks-10: Those who qualify in the written test, will be eligible for interview. In the interview, the general awareness of the candidate will be tested. The interview will be conducted by West Bengal Police Recruitment Board through Range Recruitment Boards.
A merit list of the provisionally selected candidates will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the Written Examination and interview by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board.
